In the summer of 2006 I headed up to the Bruce Penninsula to take a 3 day course in Alternative Energy. No, I was not at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, I was in a little town called Ferndale, the Headquarters for True North Power. (www.truenorthpower.com) True North Power is owned and operated by the 'Guru of Alternative Energy', Mr. Dave Cooke. I 've known for many years that there are alternatives available for everyone to generate their own energy, but how does it all work, and how would one go about setting it all up? After 3 days in Ferndale I had the answers.
All of our Web/Email Servers/Routers/Hubs receive their electrical power from the Sun. Well, actually from an Inverter hooked up to a massive battery bank that is charged by Solar Panels....by the Sun.......but I digress. The end result is that we no longer need to rely on our local Hydro provider to keep our servers running. We no longer need to rely on Fossil Fuels, Nuclear Energy, or Coal Fired Power Plants to keep our Websites and our Emails alive, and I love that. If you are hosting your domain with Orchard Studio, then you should too! So that is what I mean when I have "this email powered by the sun" added to my email signature or "this website powered by the sun" posted on my WebSites. If you host your domain at Orchard Studio, then I encourage you to do the same. Let the people you communicate with know that you are doing your part (no matter how big, or how small) to help save the Planet. You've 'Gone Green'. Thanx Dave Ferri

Skip ahead 1 year. A year that saw an Alternative Energy plan come together for Orchard Studio, some pretty major equipment purchases, tons of invaluable input from Dave Cooke, both in advice and labour, and many hours of installation and testing. Now I am both happy, and proud, to announce that we have our own Alternative Energy System up and operating beautifully here at Orchard Studio.
